The Gutbuster

My friend gave me this recipe. She says its called the gutbuster because of everything thats in it. Cake, pudding, cream cheese, whipped cream... whew. It was fun to make, fun to eat and even more fun watching my husband just gobble it up. I tease him constantly because its only now in his advanced years has he really developed a sweet tooth.

It could have been prettier, but to be honest, I didn't try that hard.

It's Mickey!

Here's the beautiful Mickey Mouse cake my daughter made for my grandson's first birthday party.

I'm so glad she's carrying on the tradition of homemade cakes.

The neighborhood rabbit

This little guy lives with his family under my neighbors shed. You can see in the picture the opening they use behind him. For the past few years, there's always been an adult and a bunch of babies coming out of that opening.

The Daily Shoot

Today's assignment - Make a photograph from an unusual point of view.

I think the photo of the orchid counts.

The Indestructible Lily

This is the indestructible lily plant. A year or two ago, as a surprise, my mother planted a lily bulb in my rosebush planter. I didn't know about it until it started to grow the following spring. I ripped it out and thought no more about it.

This spring, it grew again. When I went to pull it out, I realized there was another one growing alongside it. So I transplanted this one into a pot and left the smaller one with the roses. Look at it now, it's in full bloom.

To be honest, I know nothing about growing lilies, nor do I really care enough about them to look it up. I don't even really like lillies. I just had to snap this picture because it is pretty, isn't it?

Once again my mother has proved "Momma really does know best!"

Baked French Toast

A friend had made Baked French Toast and posted pictures of it on Facebook. It looked absolutely yummy!!! So, since I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting recipes I had to try this out.

I decided to make it as my Mother's Day breakfast. Yes, I made my own Mother's Day breakfast. I get up super early and I didn't feel it right to expect anyone else to get up at that hour. Besides, I had this great recipe to try out.

I prepped it the night before and baked it that morning. I made a *huge* tray of it. It was so good, there was only one serving left over the next day!

Next time, I'll try to remember to take my own picture of it. It's definitely a keeper and most likely will end up becoming a "holiday dish"!

Oh, here's the link for the recipe.  Baked French Toast

My roses

The family that lived in this house before us built a huge planter onto the deck. It's perfect for roses, in my opinion. Some years back, I bought the cutest little rose bush. Every year now it grows and blooms the nicest roses. All with minimal care. Some days I do wonder what it would look like if I ever did more than trim it back and water it now and then.

For the birds

This little guy/girl spent a lot of time this morning talking to me. He stuck around for so long I was able to go back inside and grab my camera!

Thrift Store Shopping

I was feeling very unsettled one day. While trying to get rid of that feeling, I had the urge to go to the thrift store. I had no idea what I was supposed to be looking for, but hey, you shouldn't argue or even question when moments like that happen.

Well, it was a success. I managed to find what I think I was sent there for AND a cute picture for my living room wall.

The fact that this picture matches the color scheme of my living room and matches the style of the random pictures in my dining room makes me think I was meant to have it.

To me, this looks like it could be a cute little faerie house!

My dollar store flowers

Not a new photo. These flowers WERE planted in my front yard. Believe it or not, I had found the plants at the dollar store. Cute right?

Well, one morning, I went outside and the neighborhood rabbit had dug these up for me. What else was there to do but bring them in and put them in a vase.

You have to admit, they are pretty.

The Dahlia

I absolutely adore the colors on this dahlia. I got this plant in 2009 and have never seen another dahlia this color since.

How It Started

I like to read.

Very simple and to the point, huh?

The other day, I did a search for reviews about a movie. One thing led to another and one link to another. Next thing I knew, an hour had passed and I was reading a random web blog that made me smile. That led to another blog, then another and yes, yet another.

They got me thinking. I already had a blog for my dog stuff. Even though I haven't been too good at updating it as often as I'd like. I have more in draft posts than anything actually posted. But still, it was time for a people blog.

So, that's how this blog was born.
